Delicious Food Nice place to bring family. My hubby brought me today for my birthday and they sang Happy Birthday in Spanish and gave me a cheese flan with whipped cream and a candle. Had a great Birthday there!!! ??????

My wife and I stopped in for lunch and loved the food and atmosphere. We had been here for dinner before, but had forgotten how wonderful the flavor of the food is. The service is pretty good as well.

We ran out of room after the appetizer sampler and took home our mofongo for later. We will be back!

The food was fantastic. Great staff. Tablet menus in English and Spanish with pictures of the food. Highly recommend the stuffed ribeye

This is probably the best Puerto Rican food you can have outside Puerto Rico. There is no parking available just street parking paying. Best mofongo I had in years, moist, flavorful, just how I like it. The chille entero was great, those are are to find in the US, and they did a great job. Prices are great, the quality of the food is so good so it is a great value. Plates are usually under $20

  • *****

The food is amazing, the people there make the atmosphere.would be amazing to see some kind of live band on the weekends. But amazing restaurant!

  • *****

LOVE THIS PLACE! The atmosphere and food are wonderful! The stuffed skirt steak is my personal favorite, and any of the appetizers are wonderful! You should absolutely stop in & grab dinner one night!

I am from Puerto Rico and I have had lots of our food. This place is by far one of the best or the best Puerto Rican food I have had. Very good customer service the place looks great inside lots of room and a nice big full bar. I will defiantly come back. Also they have a nice ipad where you can see each plate that was cool.

  • *****

My boyfriend and I had a great date night here! The coconut Mojito is so delicious and I highly recommend it. The Mufungo appetizer we had was also delicious. Very fun atmosphere and good music plus our waiter was very nice and attentive as well as all the staff at the restaurant. We will definitely be going back.

We really had an enjoyable meal here. Brought in a larger group late in the evening. We were sat easily within the amount of time stated.

Our wait staff was second to none. Always attentive to filling drinks and the majority of our food came out at once. The food was hot, good and they have this amazing chimichurri that was fantastic on everything! I even brought a bottle home.

    Can't wait to go again!

Ooooooo check this authentic Puerto Rican gem out. Crazy cool interior so eclectic, once seated, I half expected Al Pacino from Scarface to walk out and do a Samba. Live music Tuesday evenings, Salsa classes Thursday nights. Seriously felt like Miami Vice modern. But wait, the food was equally fantastic, tostones: plaintain cups with skirt steak and Alfredo chicken is an absolute must, The one with shrimp was ok. Fried snapper: fresh and scrumptious. Stuffed salmon was a 9.5/10. Raffie our server, much the gentleman, exuberant energy made this a phantasmic experience. Totally wholeheartedly recommend this dining venue.

  • *****

This mofongo filled with veggies was the best. The portions are big, the food is flavorful and the cilantro sauce was yummy. This is my second time here and Both times I’ve had a good experience. The staff is friendly and the restaurant atmosphere is pretty cool. They are always playing salsa!

  • *****

Amazing food with great flavor. Moderately priced with good portion of food. Not far from the beaches. Definitely worth checking out if your in the area.

  • *****

We enjoyed a wonderful celebration after our Son's preschool graduation today. The service is superior to other restaurants. The servers were attentive to beverages and quickly clearing plates as needed. The food was amazing with portions a plenty. Leo and his family provide an atmosphere for a fabulous dining experience that will leave you want to come back for more! #authentic

  • *****

Love this place. Good ambiance and music. Love the chuleta can can (pork chip with a chicharrn rim) but they are inconsistent on how much they cook it. I've had it cooked well but the last couple of times it has been toasted too much. The arroz mampostiado is to die for. Save your money on drinks though. They are pretty weak. All in all the food is great just a little inconsistent.

  • *****

Fabulous food coupled with superior service. Leo has created an atmosphere that will leave you wanting to come back for more every time. The meals are authentic Puerto Rican dishes that are cooked to perfection. Each plate is garnished beautifully creating an exceptional presentation. Bring the family, you won’t be disappointed.

This place is amazing we have been here quite a few times and the food is always great and very tasty !!

  • *****

What an fantastic dining experience!!!! We came looking for some authentic Puerto Rican cuisine and that's exactly what we found. The menu is actually on an iPad (super high tech!) and has something for everyone. We started with the Stuffed Tostones, it came with shrimp, steak and chicken covered tostones which were delicious and perfect for sharing. I ordered the pork mofongo and my boyfriend ordered the pork chops with rice and beans. The portions were perfect and everything was DELICIOUS!!!!! They represent PR so well and we are excited to come back soon!

New favorite restaurant in the Tampa bay area. Very good food and atmosphere. The waitresses are friendly and attentive. The service was fast and the food was fresh.

  • *****

Excellent food! The stuffed skirt steak was amazing along with tostones de pana and araitas. The fried guava dessert was out of this world. Definitely a place to stop and enjoy some great food when in Clearwater.

  • *****

The best PR cuisine I've had in Pinellas County. My clients had previously recommended La Fondita to me but I never made time to stop in, I procrastinated for too long..the food is delicious. I would have given ????? unfortunately I ordered an extra side of rice and beans and it turned out to be rice and about four beans in a cup of juice which I felt disturbed by knowing whomever prepared the order knew exactly what they were doing. One sad individual but I know management wouldn't allow this to happen had they known. The overall entree was that good that I had no interest to use my valuable time to call and complain. Overall I'd recommend just check your entire order if you carry out.

  • *****

Bacon wrapped jumbo shrimp are absolutely amazing..... Whole fried red snapper was also Delicious.... Staff was very polite

  • *****

We went right after Church and it was worth the 45 minute drive. The food was great, the music very entertaining, the price was excellent and the service was superb thanks to Juan originally from Ponce. We were a party of eight and Juan took great care of us making sure we didn't need anything ! We're already planning our next visit ! Thank you for a great dining experience.

  • *****

Could be the best Puerto Rican place that I ever eat in Tampa or Orlando. The food and the services is excellent and Amazing!

  • *****

Loved the shrimp filled tostones, the flavors were on point and didn't taste fishy at all. Could eat about 10 orders of them if I could.

  • *****

Love the ambiance, authenticity and above all the food!! Read the reviews and some friends kept insisting I needed to try the mofongo. Well here I am and I'm not disappointed. Can't physically try every delicious item on the menu in one shot so I will be back soon and I'm sure frequently. Highly recommend to any one who loves Puerto Rican cuisine

  • *****

Really really glad we found this place. Food was es my deliciouso! The can can pork chop really made the Mrs happy and the stuffed skirt steak was phenomenal. We will be back. Appetizer sampler impressed us too! 11/10 recommend. Reasonably priced and decent portions.

  • *****

This was the best skirt steak I've ever esten!! It was cooked to perfection. My boyfriend had the red snapper and loved it as well. Excellent service, nice clean location. Highly recommend!!

St. Pete is really lacking in Puerto Rican food, but this is an excellent spot, over in Clearwater, that we will certainly come back to. For the appetizer we had croquettes - they actually came to the table and were cold in the middle, but they quickly remedied the issue and brought us a hot and delicious new plate. For dinner we ordered Steak Mofongo which was SO good! The mofongo was perfectly made, the steak was the perfect temperature, and they have this really amazing chimichurri sauce on top. We also went all out and got the Can Can Pork - If you like chicharrones, you will LOVE this fried pork. It comes with one side, and we ordered Mamposteao Rice. Super flavorful and was even good left over. I do feel like we got a quite a bit of food but our final bill seemed a little expensive for a casual night out. It was absolutely a treat!

  • *****

Visiting with the family we decided to stop at La Fondita due to the good reviews. The food was Amazing!!! Ordered the stuffed Rib eye and it was perfectly cooked. They have healthy options for kids which is rare to find these days at a restaurant. Wifey loved the red sangria. A little bit pricey but worth it!

  • *****

A true testament to good food. Beautiful service mixed with vibrant culture, and throw in some amazing food to top it off. La Fondita is a great little place that should lighten up your face.

  • *****

First time there. Food was amazing and authentic. Highly recommend the stuffed skirt steak and the cheese Flan for dessert! Great flavors throughout!

On Tuesday evening (starting around 7pm), it was super lively with live drumming and dancing, spontaneously from the people eating in the dining room. Apparently this happens every Tuesday. The drumming is very loud so be prepared to shout. If you want to have deep conversation then Tuesday evening is not the time to go! But it's a very fun and positive atmosphere.

  • *****

This place was amazing. I felt super fancy. Yet prices are affordable. The food was amazing. I thought the food would take longer. It was pretty quick. First time I see menus on an ipad. The food was amazing. My husband has the can can pork chops. I had the stuffed skirt steak. It has cream cheese and sweet plantains. And we ended with cheese flan. Omg!!! It was heaven. I'll be returning.

  • *****

First time there and the food was awesome. Definitely will go back. I got the chicken mofongo and it was amazing. Huge portions and good flavor

  • *****

This was one of the best meals I have had in a long time!!!! Have the whole ?!!! So delicious! Also, our waiter was excellent helping us understand the menu since we weren't familiar with many of the dishes!

  • *****

The food was wonderful and full of amazing flavors. The staff was very friendly and checked on us often. Ask to say Hi to Freddy he is a delight.

  • *****

We absolutely love this place. I chose this place to have my birthday dinner and I am so glad I did. The food was delicious but the service is not the fastest. I was ok with that because we were having a great time. The bartender is so awesome and made sure we had a great time. This place is a must but give yourself some time.

  • *****

What's not to love?!?!?!? Parking was great, waiting time was great, service was awesome! Food and drinks were served Super Quick! Food was DELICIOUS! OMG!!! Price is pretty nice too. Did I mention the food was DELICIOUS?!?! The BEST folkloric P.R. food and flavors!

  • *****

SIMPLY AMAZING. The food was great, flan was awesome, but the service was OUTSTANDING!
    Hope to be back soon!
Oh! And we got to meet Leo! Such a great experience!

  • *****

Great service! The staff is very attentive and everything inside is well cultured. The menus are in Espanol, in case you didn't know. Recommend.

  • *****

Good food and atmosphere. The employees are great. Very friendly. Great portions for the price. Only thing is that they run out of certain items quickly.

  • *****

Great food quality and nice place to have dinner.

  • *****

Let's talk about how amazing this place is. I don't usually leave reviews but I had to.

Let's start with the service, absolutely impeccable, very friendly staff and no wait time at all. Now onto what matters... the food. It was incredible, being from Puerto Rico myself finding good authentic food in a nicer casual ambiance is kinda hard but this place's attention to detail was incredible. The decor is super trendy but has a traditional PRican feel.

In conclusion, if you are wondering if you should come here... the answer is YES.

  • *****

As close to Authentic as I have found yet! After living in PR I was missing the flavors that I had become used to in food. Even the ambiance reminds me if PR. Love this place!

One of the good things when visiting Clearwater, Florida was having Puerto Rican food for the first time.

Since we're not too familiar with the names on the menu, it wasn't hard to choose the entrees. The descriptions provided on the items were simple and the ingredients are similar to other latin flavors we've had before, but the style and combinations is what's new to us, which was really exciting.

For appetizers we went for the "Fried Cheese with Guava" ($5.25). Once served you'll notice its golden brown color of the small cubes. And once you bite into them, you can taste the creamy and soft textures of white cheeses. The strong flavor from the guava sauce adds sweetness and I thought it paired well. For starters I highly recommend, it was good.

"Skirt Steak Mofongo" ($15.95). Right down the core of the plate, what you see is garlic flavored mashed plantains. The mushiness of it tasted firm and starchy. The cut steaks were beefy, and I did like the taste of herbs from the chimichurri sauces on top. Having this was interesting because we've never anything like it and we were impressed.

"Special Chicken Roulade" ($19.95). Its cut rolled chicken breast pieces, wrapped in bacon and stuffed with plantains and chorizo. The sweet flavors comes from the cream cheese and passion fruit glaze. All I can say it was loaded with deliciousness.

Our server was friendly, he welcomed us as soon as we walked in and touched bases with us during the experience.

Nice presentation of their meals to along with excellent taste that made the experience memorable.

Had a good time with family and friends. I ordered the fried snapper (put some lime in it) with mamposteao and tostones and it was great. I grew up in P.R. and would say it met my "authentic" standard. Other people with me ordered mofongo relleno de camarones en salsa criolla and mofongo relleno de pollo al ajillo and liked it too. The beans for the rice were the only thing that didn't met standard. The Pia colada with rum, the medalla beers, the music (maybe a little too loud for a restaurant) and atmosphere made us feel in P.R. Waitress did a great job.

  • *****

    Great skirt steaks!
    Update:
one year later, same great food I remembered. This time I had the whole red snapper with mofongo. Never disappoints on quality and presentation.

  • *****

While visiting the area from California we decided to try Puerto Rican food for the first time. We had the sampler, Chuleta/Arroz con gandules and Shrimp mondongo con ajillo sauce. The food was great but the service was AMAZING!!! Maribel was our server and she was always making sure everything was ok or if we needed something. I highly recommend La Fondita de Leo, great food/anbiance, and AMAZING service!!! Thank you Maribel.

  • *****

Went tonite for my husband's birthday and the food is delicious the portions are big great appetizers. The only reason why I don't give them a five star was the service. The waiter was alone with just another waiter and they were doing the bAr the tables and I guess they were not expecting to get busy on a Monday. Way understaff. But our waiter did all his best not his fault. We will go back for sure the mofongo is sooooo good!!

  • *****

Walking inside I felt immediately immersed into Puerto Rico. The music and bright ambiance sets the atmosphere for a fun experience. Music is loud so can be difficult to talk at a normal level at your table. Server was friendly and attentive to our drinks. The grilled skirt steak stuffed with cream cheese and sweet plantains is amazing and would definitely order this again.

  • *****

We loved it! The food was awesome. The food presentation was great. Love the decor. Not super clean but I am definitely coming back.

  • *****

Very good. Totally different than any Latin food I have had. Even the waitress was authentic!

  • *****

First of all, delicious food. We both loved everything we ate so I can't complain about that. But I am a white girl who was there with a Latino man. Our hostess and server both completely ignored me and acted like my male Hispanic companion was the only one who was capable of conveying my order. It could just be the culture and maybe that is considered respectful only speaking to the man, I don't know. But I felt invisible. I will be a little reluctant to return unless I am with a Hispanic man since the attitude was that a white girl obviously can't order on her own or they don't understand. It's a shame because it seems like a popular place. Other than that, real really good food.

  • *****

You gotta try this place. Excellent food! We shared the chorizo and it was perfect. Had a rib eye steak with onions and mushrooms on top; tender and the flamed, marinade was perfect!

  • *****

This review makes it 5 star because the food is on point. But if I had walked out with the rude hostess I would have never made it to the table and missed out.
The waiter we had was from Venezuela, very polite young lady I believe her name was gabby. We had the skirt steak platter with the rice and beans. Steak was well seasoned, rice was nice and fluffy the steak was stuffed with sweet plantains and cream cheese, absolutely delicious! As an appetizer we had the very small sorullo like alcapurrias, those were delicious as well.
Our complaint was in the wait time of the food and on the awful hostess who didn't even acknowledge we were standing right in front of her for 5 mins and didn't even greet us to let us know that she was gonna tend to us ASAP. Communication with customers when they walk in is key!!!

I nearly forgot to mention the amazing balloon maker! She is very very talented! She works for tips! My baby girl couldn't get one cause she is just only 8 months old unfortunately:( but we enjoyed seeing all of her creations and the adorable little kids' faces when she created these things for them!
The photo is of the rude hostess with the jeans and black top, and of our delicious meal!

  • *****

Really good Puerto Rican Fusion cuisine! Appetizer platter was a great way to start. Mofongos are legit...take it from a Dominican-American! Make sure you try the cilantro/jalapeo sauce on the table!!

  • *****

Seviche - great! Mofongo w shrimp - amaZing! Stuffed chicken with bacon wrapped shrimp - amazing! Tres lecce- out of this world! Music, friendly staff and good atmosphere. Strongly recommend!

  • *****

La Fondita de Leo is the best PR food I have had EVER!!!
I was telling my fianc that if he was ever to take me to eat Mofongo he should bring me here no doubt about it. I had the mofongo with the skirt steak and mushrooms and OMG it was great. If you are in the area I recommend it.

The music was fun but a bit too loud. The food was amazing. The waitor was helpful and friendly. The hostess not so much. Bathrooms could use a good cleaning. They had a huge bar so if drinking if your thing then you will love it.They had a huge TV with football playing.

  • *****

Best Mofongo in Florida! Try the Can Can! Great place to eat, drink and have a good time!

  • *****

My boyfriend and I just ate here today and I can say that the food is delicious. Plates are big and full with great flavors. Good customer service, nice atmosphere and tvs all over the restaurant, also they have iPads on the tables with the menu and pictures with the different drinks, appetizers, entrees and deserts. We got the alcapurrias for an appetizer. Both got mofongos one with the carne frita and the other one with the chicken en salsa blanca. I definitely recommend any of the two. For sure we will be back!

  • *****

Amazing amazing amazing. Great puerro Rican food. The beans are to die for. Mofongo is great moist and tasty. Their specialty plates are one of a kind.

  • *****

    Awesome!

  • *****

The food was delicious here, the servers were very nice, and the atmosphere was perfect. The only problem was that it was very loud and it was difficult to put in order and such but that was only because it was so busy. There was also a lady working for tips there that was doing balloon animals who's creations were amazing!

Best authentic Puerto Rican dishes in the tampa / Clearwater area. The churrasco tostone cups are a must! The sangria is absolutely delicious. Pricey but worth it. Reminds me exactly of the sangria I used to get in Mayagez. The mofongo con camarones is excellent and huge portion. I can never finish it. My honey likes the breaded palomilla. This spot is definitely our first choice for Latin food.

  • *****

My first time trying this restaurant, and we decided that we'd have dinner. When you walk in there is a full bar, then I noticed as we were being seated there was a stage. I could barely keep still from wiggling in my seat from listening to Celia Cruz & Hector Lavoe ? ???. The food was beyond
amazing, customer service was great! My family & I will return again.

  • *****

    The food was amazing

  • *****

Oh my god! The best Puerto Rican food I have ever eaten in my life! Yes there’s a little bit more of a wait because every meal is made perfectly to order. The taste of the food, the service, and presentation of the finished meals were absolutely stunning! The building is also very beautiful and has a great atmosphere! If I could write a book, I would?

  • *****

Tremendo lugar de comida excelente y muy buen ambiente!

  • *****

Being from Puerto Rico, most restaurants won't live up to the standards for my family, but this restaurant has really great food and we will happily dine there. La Fondita is a great spot and has great recipes. It's authentic and spacious.

  • *****

This place has such fun atmosphere! I found myself singing all my middle school jams in the middle of a hump day lunch while eating yummy food. Service was excellent. I ordered the Fried Pork which came with choice of side- Arroz con Gandules for me. The pork was good and the rice was delicious! My husband ordered the Mofongo with Churrasco steak and Chimichurri sauce, which never disappoints. An order of Tostones and we left feeling ready for a nap. All their sauces are homemade and very fresh. Only downside, a little bit too loud for lunch. I felt like I needed to stay for the after party to dance all the carbs off

  • *****

Have been here twice in two weeks and every meal has exceeded expectations.
The Fried Pork mofongo is flavorful, and never too dry. The pork chop Cancan is just delightful!

10/10 would recommend to any Puertorican on the fence about eating here! You'll be pleasantly surprised!

Buen servicio y la comida riquísima !!

Decided to try this small restaurant when walking in this location. The menu appeared to offer genuine Mexican fare, which I love, so tried. Was 2:00pm so not crowded but a few people did come in and order take out. I ordered a real, street chicken taco; smaller corn tortilla with cilantro, chopped onion and a light drizzle of sauce. While the flavor was good, the taco lacked finesse as the very small pieces of chicken almost seemed to be diced. Taco was dry and flavorless unfortunately. Also ordered a side of rice & beans. Loved the rice and beans, flavored nicely and I only had to add a little salt. The person who waited on me could not speak English, however, she was extremely nice and helpful and prices are reasonable : taco = $2.50 , rice & beans = $3.00.

The food was delicious and the waitress quite nice. Loved the atmosphere but it is the food that truly takes the spotlight!
The chicken was tender, moist, held together, and with the bacon, chorizo, plantain, and passion glaze was so yummy there was no need to add sauce.
The glasses for the corona were chilled making for a better pour and drinking temperature. This small thing is something oft overlooked!
Overall this was a fantastic dinner!

  • *****

So many fusion meals here! Mexican, Cuban, Spanish American fusions! The chefs are not shy to mix traditional cuisine with newer more experimental styles. They serve everything from chicken meat to fish. The decoration in there makes me think someone is an art gallery lover because I saw paintings in there that made me miss the Dali museum and Mexico at the same time. The atmosphere in the restaurant is vibrant and alive with happy families talking and laughing. The bar was full when I sat down on a Saturday night. They have a pretty mesmerizing assortment of liquor on those shelves too!

Beautiful place, great taste and good price. My husband love the churrasco relleno de Amarillo. Thanks a lot.

  • *****

Absolutely amazing place!! The food was perfect. The restaurants' decor made us feel right at home, back in Puerto Rico. Our waitress was excellent. The food had the gourmet look, while still having that made at home criollo taste that we puertoricans love. They were showing the NBA Playoffs on a big screen, which was a plus, while playing some salsa and bachata as background music. We will definitively be coming back soon!!!

This place honestly blew me away. With two of the three locations bein gin puerto rico i knew i was in for a treat. What you will find here is very authentic puerto rican food.
We had the chuleta can can, the churassco relleno, the arroz con gandules, the mofongo, the kids pasta with white sauce, the red sangria, the sampler appetizer which is not listed but has 4 varieties of their best items for 18.95. You can change things out which is awesome if you want more of certain things. Just have to say everything, and i mean everything was amazing. They have the best mofongo ive ever eaten had a garlic and pork flavor to it. There is literally NO complaints from anyone drom our table of 6 and that is rare. Even the kods pasta was wonderdul we ended up ordering anoyher one since it was so good! Service was also excellent maribel or marisol was amazing at taking great care of us. We were visiting in Clearwater from Cincinnati and stopped here for dinner. The atmosphere was upbeat, not very crowded, great Latin music. Service was fine, waitress spoke English but was slightly difficult to understand, however that didn't bother us. She was very friendly and happy to answer our questions. Very authentic. Margaritas were very good, and we decided to order an appetizer. We got the stuffed green plantains (beef). They were delicious! The cilantro green sauce was so good I could have chugged it. The orange sauce was good also, but sweeter. Beef was tender, not chewy. I highly recommend this appetizer. For dinner, I choose the shrimp monfongo. I didn't have a clue what monfongo was, so I asked. It's a mixture of rice, beans (I think), shrimp, cilantro, garlic and probably a few other spices fried together, molded in a round bowl and put on the plate. The bowl is removed , topped with a shrimp or 2 and you have a mound of deliciousness. You can choose a sauce to have over top, I chose garlic and then used the yummy cilantro green sauce with each bite. It was so good and very filling! I wanted to eat it all because it tasted so good, but I know my limits! So I took about a fourth of it some in a to go box and put some more green sauce on the side of course!
My husband had the whole red snapper which is seasoned lightly and then deep fried. It comes with a choice of sides- he chose rice and beans. The beans were very good, like charro beans- saucy with a hint of bacon flavor. Not too smoky. Rice was white with cilantro and he mixed it with the beans- although I might have eaten each separately because I liked arch's individual flavor. He was very impressed with the rice and beans, but he said the best was the red snapper. Flavorful, very large portion, mild but good seasoned flavor. Would highly recommend this fish dish. Couldn't finish the rice and beans, but again they were fantastic so we put them in the to go box.
So after 2 margaritas each, an appetizer, and the 2 entrees it was 74.00. Well worth it. We will miss this food when we return to Cincinnati!

Spot on Puerto Rican cuisine! Best I have had since San Juan. The prices are reasonable for the large portions and everything is fresh and cooked to order!

This is one of the best Puerto Rican restaurants I've been to here in Clearwater. Their food is very delicious. They are very quick at serving, also making sure you are satisfied with everything. Their mofongos are the best. My Husband and me feel like if we were at our Island when we're there.

Great place to feel like you're at a restaurant back home or simply to explore puertorican food! Everything is delicious!! We had sorrullos and tostones rellenos con churrasco as appetizers and they were the best I've ever tried. Our entrees were the fried fish with arroz mamposteado (fantastic) and the chorizo and amarrillitos stuffed chicken breast. Great food, great service and great prices!

  • *****

Love the food, it's truly delicious!! Prices are a bit high. Service is phenomenal, waiters are very pleasant. During cooler nights is great to sit outside, nice atmosphere in the heart of downtown Clearwater. Love the live entertainment on select nights. I'm not sure if there's a way to see the live entertainment schedule though.

  • *****

Great food! Get your mofungo fix! Great sauces to add PR flavors.

  • *****

This was our very first adventure in Puerto Rican cuisine. Man this was good. I mean really good. The shrimp stuffed chicken was very tasty perhaps a touch dry but excellent flavor. We are here on Blast Friday night and the crowds were all around so I will cut them a lot of slack for the below average service. We will definitely return hoping the service is better.

    Give this place a try.

  • *****

I've never tried Puerto Rican cuisine before. This restaurant represents it very well and it did not disappoint! I ordered the Pork Chop Can Can. It was like crunchy chicharones, pork belly, and pork chop rolled into one. One of the best things I've ever eaten.

It's located right at the heart of downtown Clearwater in Cleveland Street (named after the greatest city on earth, and I'm not biased because I live there) which they have pedestrianized.

This place is worth a visit if you're in town. All that extra salt intake helped me float better in the beach.

I liked the way they treat you here, like family, always friendly and with a smile. Been there twice and first time everything was very salty, and talked to some friends who told me must have been a bad day cause everything they tried was excellent, so I went back and everything was top notch cooked to perfection and very good flavor. I'll change this once I prove the first time was just an off day.

Now this is what I'm talking about, Authentic Puerto Rican food. The Sorullitos were so good. The alcapuria were even better. They had the perfect amount of meat. The mofongo was on point. This is one of the places you go to and you don't have to add a sauce or whatever to add some flavor to it. It had flavor on its own. The chicharon de pollo was also flavorful. Yes I came when we left, I need a tow truck to haul me to the car. Lol It was really good food. The place has beautiful Puerto Rican pictures and they have salsa playing in the background. My type of place.

We were amazed with the quality and quantity of the food. Left overs became breakfast. Next time we will split a dish. Service was fine. I told the server I had never been to a quote, unquote has Puetro Rican food, he suggested a few dishes - I was very pleased.

  • *****

The food variety was awesome the service was great the interior is amazing however the prices at lunch was way too expensive. $20 for a lunch plate and the lowest was $11 just doesn't make sense. Dinner price okay but it would be nice if they had a lunch menu. If I could have gotten my dish split in half and paid 8.99 for it I would be very satisfied . Lunch today cost $70 with tip. Now I will say we had one sangria and one white wine. But $58 for lunch and 2 wines is very expensive. I am sure this place is great for dinner.

Nestled in downtown Clearwater, La Fondita will bring the Latin fair in style
I absolutely loved the Latin musica playing and the vibe
I was surprised to arrive at lunch time on a Saturday and be the only patrons. I can only equate that to the location and time of day.
However, I wasn't complaining as I pulled into my metered parking spot right in front of the doors. Meters are free on weekends, although there are only a few spots. I did see a parking garage around the corner only 1/2 a block.
The food and drinks were excellent and the deserts were next level! Our server did not speak very much English but for me that added to the experience. I am sure if this is a concern they have plenty of people who work there who can help out.
Prices aren't cheap but they are very reasonable.
Overall if you are looking for good Puerto Rican food this is the place

  • *****

The mofongo was superb as was the atmosphere!! Hidden gem in Downtown Clearwater if you love Puerto Rican food..or even if you don't!!!

  • *****

I'm not an expert or even a novice when it comes to Puerto Rican food. But, why not try it! This restaurant is in downtown Clearwater which might as well be Scientology Caucasian central so our expectations were low. Then, we walked in on Saturday evening...

This place was happening! A full bar, a huge dining hall, great Latin music, families, couples on dates, a lady making balloon animals for kids, fun slogans on the walls, and a great loud atmosphere! Wow!

The host asked if we'd been here before and I said no, it's our first time! He mentioned they'd been open about two years and I apologized for being late. He smiled and said "we've got you now" and how right he was!

Jacquie served us and we tried multiple kinds of mofongo and also some ceviche! Both were generous portions and very tasty! In fact, we ordered more to go to avoid cooking for a few days! The garlic sauce and chimichurri sauce were spectacular also!

Then, we asked for a recommendation for dessert and Jacquie said "you have to try the coconut creme brle!" Wow! It's a wonderful taste sensation! We are coming back and getting this again!

Forgot what you thought you knew about downtown Clearwater and check this place out! You won't regret it.

  • *****

Came here on friend's recommendation. WOW! Stuffed skirt steak, with cream cheese and sweet plaintains:chicken roulade stuffed with chirizo, sweet plaintains and cream cheese: fried chicken Milanese with a marinara and melted mozzarella. Sides of mamposteo rice, tostones and red beans and rice. Such flavor in all the dishes. All tender and moist with explosions of flavor coming through. Forgot to take a picture and now it's all gone, sad. My new favorite latin good location. On top of the food, great inside and beautiful bar. What a jewel in Clearwater. Will be back

  • *****

I was visiting from Miami Had lunch there this weekend with my son I ate there once before and I had the rice black beans and vegetables because I'm a vegetarian however this time the waiter told me that they have a vegetarian Mofongo which I did not know existed the first time I was there. amazing is all I have to say, the waiter told me he offers this dish to all vegetarians I can't wait to come back so I can bring my wife. So if you're a vegetarian and you're in town try their vegetarian Mofongo you will not be disappointed

  • *****

Decided to take my dad here for his birthday because a friend of his recommended it. We are Puerto Rican so we were hoping that it would live up to our expectations of what we consider good Puerto Rican home cooking. With that being said, the food was very good but nothing beats my moms cooking lol. We really did enjoy it though. We got the mofongo, skirt steak with chimichurri, pork chops, and alcapurrias. Everything was delicious and the portions are huge! We didn't get dessert because we were too stuffed but would have loved to try because they looked delicious! On a side note though, my sister did tell me that the bathrooms were really dirty and unkept so it would be nice if they could improve on bathroom cleanliness.

  • *****

This is some of the best Puerto Rican food you will find outside of actually being in Puerto Rico! The stuffed tostones and mofongo are excellent! They also make a jalapeno, garlic, cilantro, olive oil type aioli that is amazing. Great atmosphere. Service is very friendly. Definitely worth a visit.

  • *****

We just enjoyed a delicious lunch at La Fondito de Leo. The food and service were outstanding! Our waiter was friendly and checked on us frequently. He won us over when he asked for our drink order and said he would take our kids' orders too, so their food would come out sooner. Very nice detail. Now to the food-Churrasco steak medium well with a house salad and side of maduros-amazing! Ceviche mixto-delicious with tostones. Dessert- Creme Brle de Coco-perfect ending to a perfect meal!

  • *****

  • *****

Delicious food authentic and reasonable prices the staff is friendly will definitely return again when In town There mofongo is delicious!

  • *****

Delicious food and friendly service. I had never had mofongo (mashed green plantains that come in a mound; you can get it "filled" with different meat if you like) and wasn't sure if I'd like it. My waiter was kind enough to have a mini mofongo made for me to try to see if I wanted to order one. It was amazing; mofongo, where have you been all my life! I had the churrasco steak and a side of mofongo for lunch. Everything tasted so fresh and was so full of flavor. The green sauce is super tasty. I had a coconut creme brulee for dessert that was ok. This is a great little spot.

  • *****

Great spot. Make sure of you're a vegetarian or vegan to speak up; they have great alternatives. The foods are filled with flavor and the drinks are done to perfection!

  • *****

Second time we have been here. The service is great and the mofongo is just like we had in PR. Highly recommended that you check this place out. All of the food, even the kids food is really good. My daughters chicken nuggets are better than 95% of the American food places because they are hand made. The fried pork mofongo is on point.

Stop here if you wanna eat something you can't find other places

  • *****

Walking in I was in love with the music and decor. The place is ultimately as charming as was our waiter. Very attentive and dealt with our indeciveness. We ordered tostones for our appetizer and it arrived super fast. First bite in - amazing ...the smell alone made my mouth water. With how good the appetizer was I was literally wiggling in my seat I was so excited about my main course. Oh ceviche, I just know you won't fail me! Of course you didn't! Spectacular! You don't even need to have eaten Puerto Rican food a day in your life to realize this is special. I'm not even a fan of shrimp but I gobbled this up like it was going to swim off my plate. Bottom line - come, sit, EAT. This place will not leave hungry or disappointed.

Awesome Puertorican food!! Great mofongo, and churrasco can get crowded, so make sure to call im advance to be placed on wait-list (not a reservation but a wait list); they should carry Medalla beer; that would really make it awesome, but overall awesome, chevere boricua :-)

    Cons:

Been going to this place for a while... it was busier that usual. Ordered appetizers, and main course...

When the appetizers arrived, the main courses appeared 10 seconds later...

Bummer, we were not able to enjoy the appetizers, because food was going to get cold.

Corn fritters (sorullitos) were saggy, means they were not well done, when told the server, she said, no worries we will get them right next time!! And what about now??!!! Nothing happened.

The mofongo was dryer than usual, but flavor was good.

    Dessert, fried cheesecake was amazing.

Wow! This was an amazing Puerto Rican restaurant to try. The waitress was friendly & excellent. The decor was fun, & from what I could tell, the food was amazing & excellent. I ordered the skirt steak with chimchurri sauce & plantains. The meat was cooked perfectly medium as I requested. The skirt steal seemed lean & tender, & the sauce was freshly made. They even brought out extra sauce because I thought it was so tasty. The plantains weren't grossly sweet so I appreciated that. This was a fun meal for special occasions. The price was $14.95.

Absolutely amazing food. I am Puerto Rican and of course knowing what Puerto Rican food tastes like I was never able to find a good Puerto Rican food restaurant in Tampa Bay in the almost 20 years I have been living here...until now. This place is perfection. The can can pork cops, rice and beans, corn fritters and that amazing guava fried cheesecake...every single one was just absolutely perfect. My friend said the churrasco salad was also amazing. The staff was great, the chef came to chat with us and since the place was not super busy yet they even went out to put coins in my meter so I didn't have to stop eating my food to go out!!! Great service and great food. I am looking forward to visiting again soon.

  • *****

Great food! Great service! Great experience! Will return soon! The food was better than amlot of Restaurants in PR. We had more than we expected. I will love to try everything in the menu! Thank you!

  • *****

I highly recommend the Chef's Risotto, Shrimp Mofongo, Passion Fruit juice and the Mampostea'o rice. The food was amazing! So full of flavor! My server was Juan and he was great and attentive to our table. The atmosphere is really vivacious and I loved the music. Would definitely come again with my family.

  • *****

So, the service was 3-4 stars, which is not too shabby. Our server was friendly, relatively prompt, pretty decent. The food, on the other hand, was like 7 stars. I haven't had decent Caribbean food since I was actually in the Caribbean, and I was so excited to share good Puerto Rican with my friends! The mofungo was delicious, I had the skirt steak with chimichurri, and I'm pretty sure I could eat it every day for the rest of my life. Other members of my party all had different things and everybody was in consensus that we are going to have to come back, regularly.

  • *****

The mofongo is amazing. Ask for extra sauce if you like it a bit more wet. Had the shrimp and the chimichurri both amazing.

  • *****

Wonderful Puerto Rican food and flavors. The mofongo alone was well worth the drive from Tampa and the service was great.

  • *****

Food was very tasty with a very reasonable price... Recommend the chicken rinds, mofongo, arroz mamposteado, churrasco and for dessert the cinnamon cake and cheese flan were delicious. Only thing I recommend to improve is the coffee, for the rest is excellent! And the server Beth was very attentive, surprised by the other yelper comments about this. Try the place out. :)

  • *****

Authentic ingredients, engaging and knowledgeable staff, great drinks, and food full of flavor. So good on so many levels

  • *****

Beautiful restaurant, very tasty authentic P.R. food! We look forward to going to the location in Puerto Rico. We've been here a few times with family and have referred other PR friends and they approved also :). My four stars may change to five - the service is a little slow but that can always improve!

  • *****

Great addition to Clearwater! Excellent mofongo and service! My missing star goes to traditional puertorrican appetizers missing on their menu like bolitas de queso, guineos en escabeche etc. I will definitely will be back for more mofongo and hopefully some arroz con gandules if ever added to their menu.

  • *****

Don't MISS this one! Came here for lunch on a Sunday, seated quickly by friendly staff. Great food, fantastic service, good Latin music plays over speakers, plus large bar area. We were a party of three (3) so we split the mixed seafood ceviche entre as an appetizer with tostones. Perfectly seasoned, fresh veggies and shrimp/fish prepared with limes. Delicious. Hubby ordered fried red snapper with maduros (sweet plantains) and rice and beans my sis and I order chuleta can can with araitas (shaved plantains loosely shaped into balls and fried). They offer a variety of sauces (mojo) to add to your dish. Additionally, they put a house special "pique" and mayo-ketchup on the table. The entire experience was amazing! We all loved it. Thanks to our waiter Omar, and all the other attentive staff. We plan to go back, hopefully soon.

  • *****

I am giving only 4 stars (should be 3) because of the tastiness, authenticity and quality of the entrees and the staff hardwork.

You can tell that they bought the place and besides puertorican music being played in the background, maybe a little bit on the too loud side, it does not look like a puertorican or a restaurant for that matter at all. They have all the decor, I am assuming, of the previous place. Organization wise this place is close to a complete mess. I want to be back because I really liked the food and my waiter did his part, but other waiters were consistently asking if I ordered this or that item with the dish at hand, a little annoying by the 5th time. Waiting time wise was OK, but a coworker of mine went an hour earlier than I did and said that it took them 40 mins to get their food. I knew it was on the slow end, so I ordered an appetizer so it feels less wait time, but a few fries with bacon and cheese just on top of it was not a $9 appetizer, pretty bad presentation but I was hungry and it was on the greasy end.

BUT the main entrees were worth it. Can Can Pork Chop BETTER than the ones I had on the island with actually crunchy chicharrones on the fat and the mofongo was one of the best mofongos I've ever tried, a little heavy on the bacon in the mofongo but I guess it actually worked. The stuffed skirt steak was THE BEST skirt steak I've had EVER, I mean WOW, no chimichurri though like the menu specified, but none needed. And the dessert, COCONUT CREME BRULEE, ok, the taste was definitely there, good dessert, well priced, but the sugar part on the top, at least less than half of it was not solid, too much sugar was the issue to create the solid top, but it tasted great actually (took the soft sugar out). Good presentation on all of those.

Summary: Great food, good waiters, God Awful Organization wise.

Notes: When I arrived then a 2nd couple arrived, they seated us both in the same "run". 1st time ever I've seen that mistake. Then my table was still wet/dirty from the previous clients, and she sprayed some cleaning product on the table and not only left it wet with the cleaning product but sprayed other client in the next to our table without noticing. We arrived at 7:20, left at 8:45. When we left the place we saw that for like 20 mins nobody was in the receiving clients booth and a couple was there looking and looking to be seated and nothing happened, so they just sat on a table by themselves. So the mess is ALL on the OWNER and MANAGER of the place, those 2 guys have to TRAIN their staff in a good and efficient developed system that works because THE FOOD IS A FREAKING HOME RUN, no doubt in my mind. BUT if this fix does not happen VERY SOON, it will be over for them, because people want food and a good experience while eating out. If one of those 2 is not there, not many will be back. 52 seasons, French restaurants, I've been have NOTHING on this chef and cooks, but the experience can and should improve and I believe they have the willing staff, but NO system. God bless and hopefully I'll see a better Fondita de Leo soon. I'm rooting for you guys to be a Clearwater mainstay, but as is it won't happen. And some attractive but simple decor/new paint (black matte on the gold ceiling, please?) will do.

I'm relieved to know that there is a Puerto Rican restaurant near where I live that makes quality food. They also do catering I ordered the skirt steak with chimichurri sauce rice and beans and tostones. I went in during lunch hour not your typical serving time and the service was still good and the food was fresh as well. They made my steak exactly how I asked. The beans lack a little bit of the consistency that normally comes with Puerto Rican red beans but the taste was good. If you're looking for a classy Latin cuisine that is good quality I would recommend this place.

  • *****

We are here on vacation & my mom got sick. I searched for places nearby that had a simple warm soup I could get her. I called & the girl told me the soups of the day. I asked is asopado was on the menu & she said it was not but she'd ask the cook if they could make it. The cook told me to give her about one hour & she would gladly oblige. I took my mom to the location & she ended up having a platano cream soup & I had the pork mofongo. They were delicious! The staff are extremely friendly & accommodating. The place is very pretty, spacious & clean. I was very glad I found this place. The prices are a bit high but good Spanish food seems to be hard to find in Clearwater beach area so I do t mind paying for good quality food especially when it comes wrapped with a warm smile.

  • *****

Fantastic food! First time I've tried Puerto Rican cuisine, though. We had the ceviche as an appetizer and it was delicious--all the right spices, though not as hot as I've normally experienced. I had the beef shoulder fillet for the main course with the rice/beans on the side. The meat was tender and juicy with an interesting blend of spices. The rice was plain but went well with the beans and main course.

    Will definitely be back again!

  • *****

Amazing experience! Staff was on point and knowledgeable about the menu items. Everything looked amazing on the menu and the dishes we had were incredible. Great atmosphere. I felt like I was back in Puerto Rico eating at my abuella's. Everything was fresh and made to order. You can taste the love and pride in every meal. Hands down my new favorite restaurant.

  • *****

I'm from Puerto Rico so I got very excited when I stumbled across this restaurant when I was browsing for Puerto Rican food. I can say I've found a piece of PR in Clearwater. From the moment I stepped in I felt like I was back home. The decor and music are great. The restaurant side was pretty busy so we sat on a high top on the bar side.
The food did not disappoint. It was DELICIOUS. We started with 2 Medallas (light beer from PR), two empanadas stuffed with beef skirt and cheese. Followed by the mofongo stuffed with beef skirt (churrasco) with chimichurri sauce. The seasoning was spot on! The mofongo was not to dry not to wet. Just right! We then had a cheese flan and the corn fritters with the mayo/ketchup sauce with a touch of garlic to finish our 2nd beers.
We will definitely be back very soon to try other dishes.
By the way service was just as good. Our server and the owner kept checking on us to make sure everything was ok.

  • *****

To be honest I'm was not impressed, the quality of the food is not bad os actually pretty good, bit it doesn't justify the price, is a little expensive for this type of food

  • *****

Great surprise in downtown Clearwater. The service was great, the food was delicious, and the prices not bad. I only wish their menu were a little more descriptive. If I hadn't seen the pictures on yelp, I may have missed out on some great dishes. We had the chicken stuffed tostones, stuffed chicken with rice and beans, and the fried cheesecake with guava and ice cream. Delish!

  • *****

First visit to this restaurant and I just want to say it was a great experience. It's a very welcoming and friendly atmosphere. I'm very supportive of family owned businesses. The Owner, manager and server are all related and I respect that.
Great tasty authentic Puerto Rican food.
We ordered the stuffed churrasco (stuffed steak) and the pork mofongo. The medley of flavors was delightful. All the dishes were extremely satisfying.
Make sure you try the house made sauces.
The food is different and it is always nice to find something new in this area. It's a welcomed addition to the downtown community.
I definitely recommend this place as a must try restaurant in the Clearwater/Tampa Bay Area.

  • *****

This place serves THE best Puerto Rican food here in FL! I've eaten at both the one in PR and just a couple of days ago this one in Clearwater! The food is delicious, the service is great and friendly and the atmosphere is really nice. I wish I lived closer but I'm like over 3 hours away so I'll have to wait until my next trip up here. Seriously check this place out you won't be disappointed!

  • *****

Lively ambiance. Haven't been there enough to offer a full review. I can say the coconut and curry mahi mahi was exceptional - a dish unlike any other I've had in the area. Makes me want to go back and try the cerviche. Service was friendly when given, however, our waiter disappeared for extended periods forcing us to get his attention.

  • *****

WOW. nice big place. Fantastic food. Great service. Can can pork chop is a pork chop and chicharron delight. Huge! Stuffed Mofongo was amazing. Love all three sauces that they serve as condiments. They all compliment the food in different ways. Jalapeo with cream cheese sauce and the typical mayo ketchup sauce with spices for the tostones and the very tasty chimichurri sauce. We started with the stuffed tostones appetizers and a couple very cold beers. Great. Can't wait to go back.

  • *****

A fun and happy atmosphere, combined with real ethnic Puerto Rican food that takes it to another level. The Shrimp Mofongo was off the hook as was the Skirt Steak and Bacon Stuffed Chicken. It's sometimes so hard to find real ethnic foods in Florida but Leo's does it! Does it extremely well and with casual comfort. Juan, our server was helpful in explaining some of the unique dishes as well as the standard Puerto Rican dishes. It's really difficult to call anything standard here since even the "standard" dishes were more tastefully done than anywhere else I've been. Servings were healthy, a bit pricey but well worth it. From the Sangria to the Coconut Crme Brule it was all delicious and creative.

  • *****

I had the salmon in caper sauce and the sweet potatoe fries. Also tried the shrimp mofongo which had limited amount of shrimp. The salmon was EXCELLENT! Will come back!

  • *****

Special Chicken Roulade and Stuffed Skirt Steak were outstanding ! We would have taken a picture but forgot once we took a took a bite. Customer service was great as well.

  • *****

Food was excellent. The mofongo was perfect. Only gave 4 stars because service was slow.

  • *****

Being that my husband is 100% Puerto Rican and was blown away, this place deserves 5 stars. Authentic it is. I'm a very picky eater and the salmon was to die for. He got a traditional dish that he hasn't had in years, "can can pork" and couldn't stop raving about how good it was and how it was "everything he remembered". The server shook our hand at the beginning and end of our meal which was such a pleasant style. Thank you for curbing my husbands craving!

  • *****

OUTSTANDING! Yes I read the earlier reviews. The restaurant was very clean and lightly decorated, meaning it wasn't tacky nor distracting. The full bar is semi-separate from dining area and has multiple TV's on mute.
The Hostess was pleasant but wasn't as warm as I thought she should be since she's our first contact and represents the restaurant. Her outfit sent mixed messages.. Our server Dylan was very polite, professional, and knowledgeable about the menu. He appeared and reappeared at the proper time allowing us to talk and enjoy our meal.

We were in search of Churrasco and found it!

As we ordered our meals we tossed in a few orders of the bacon wrapped shrimp, 3 per order ($6.95). Oh My! the presentation and flavor were award winning. The shrimp were jumbo size, bacon semi-crisp, with a light sauce. They took this dish to the next level and we really enjoyed it. Kudos to the chef.

Now the Churrasco. It was perfect. A nice 8-10oz cut cooked as ordered, med-rare.Tender beyond description. A nice even cut. I hate to even expose this but the price was well below the standard for this dish. The mofongo added $2 which brought it up to $16, well below what I normally pay for this dish elsewhere.
My order came with Puerto Rican mofongo. google it...
The monfongo contained many different flavors and I rate it 5/5 stars. The last time I had this dish of such quality was in Old San Juan at Raices. great job. For those of you who haven't experienced mofongo please start here and your bar will be set pretty high.
I topped the night off with their homemade cheese flan ($3.95). simple yet pure topped with whipped cream... smooth and creamy...

    Suggestions:
I would like to recommend adding a little noise absorbing decor. I can see it could get loud with a full crowd and this would reduce the echo effect. This is NOT a negative just constructive criticism, you have a good thing going here.
A more descriptive menu. This will invite folks to try more dishes.

  • *****

I would gave it 5 stars but the service was a little slow, the food is excellent I recommend the food, I would definitely go back I liked the food and the music.vamo alla!!

Great place to get your pr fixing. We came here at 11:00 am when they opened so we practically had the whole place to ourselves. They have nice ambiance with interesting and funny decor. There is a full bar upon entering the restaurant. I think they have things going on at night because of a stage and a big screen tv in the dining room. Ordered the chuleta kan kan and it was delicious. The skin was very crispy and the meat was moist. I ate this dish in Puerto Rico and it was pretty close. Also had the mofongo. I would definitely come here again.

  • *****

This place is amazing! I was born and raised in Puerto Rico and I can assure you the food here is definitely authentic but with a refined twist. The food was exceptionally fresh and delicious. The service was great, they sat us right away and the server was very knowledgable of the menu. Definitely a must try if you are visiting Clearwater and want a taste of real puertorican flavors! We will be definitely coming back again. Suggestions: Chicken Roulade, Stuffed Skirt Steak and Mofongo. The Coconut Creme Brulee was also great!

  • *****

I came in solo. Received great service and the food was amazing. Salmon with capers and fried plantains -sooooo good! Can't wait to go back and try more items from the expansive menu.

  • *****

La Fondita de leo is my new favorite restaurant. We've driven back and forth over the bridge for the past three nights in a row. I've had the queso frito, ceviche, skirt steak, mufongo, rice and beans, mahi mahi, the can can pork chop, flan, and the creme brule. Everything is done authentic and delicious. It's quiet on week nights and wonderful to sit outside. Jose and Betsy served us and they are Buena gente en serio.

  • *****

We were pleasantly surprised by the presentation and taste of the food here. We'll be coming back.
Service was a little bumpy in that our waiter seemed a little unsure of himself but that sort of thing is tolerable if the food makes up for it, which it did.

  • *****

Omg! What amazing food. We live in St. Pete and are going to The Capitol Theater for a show. Checked Yelp to see what is good here and decided to try it! Wow...wow...wow...soooo wish they would open up one in St. Pete....because anyone in. St. Pete knows that driving beyond a mile radius to eat is like traveling to another state...lol....it's WORTH the trip!

I can no longer go visit my Puerto Rico because of medical issues. I will never see my homeland again. I will never show my daughters where I'm from, this nightmare is my reality.

This is also the reason why I love this place. The food is a trip back to my youth. My daughters can experience the same food I ate growing up there. This place brings me joy and some peace, from the jugo de parcha, (passion fruit juice), to the araitas, (translated to small spiders). Araitas are shredded green plantain, then bundled together and then fried. Think tostones but lighter and crispier. Perfect with Puerto Rico's number one sauce, mayoketchup, the perfect marriage of mayonnaise, ketchup, garlic, and anything else you want to put in it. The food is seasoned strong, just like in PR. Lots of garlic, adobo, recaito, salt, pimiento, among many others. It's a festival of flavor that will leave you thirsty for more parcha juice.

The deserts are worth noting. Specially the fried cheesecake with ice cream and choice of either Nutella or guava sauce. It is fantastic.

Helpful and friendly staff and the family friendly, bring your kids with you feel, completes this well deserved five stars.

Had the skirt steak w stuffed plantains n cream cheese. Food had very good presentation and seasoned/grilled to perfection. Best if you come here and speak spanish, very authentic.

  • *****

Great mofongo!!! And great food and music if you're looking for a nice Latin dinner this is your place for sure tasty and good!

  • *****

Please figure out your seating process a little bit more. The first time we came here, we left after waiting for service for over 15 minutes. The second time, getting seated took a while, even though there were a lot of tables available. OTHERWISE, food is PHENOMENAL... This is coming from a Puerto Rican who never thinks anyone's food beats her mom's or grandmother's. I think you may have them beat. ;) I will definitely come back but I'll make sure I'm not in a rush or too hungry, so that the seating process doesn't bother me. Mofongo with shrimp, pork tenderloins, arroz con gandules, rice and beans, salmon, guava cheesecake and brownie a la mode..... AMAZING.

  • *****

First time here. Tried the Pork Mofongo and it was fantastic. My husband tried skirt steak Mofongo, good but likes mine better

Fantastic authentic food from Puerto Rico. Great blend of flavors with generous portions.
    Attentive staff and good atmosphere.

Want to know food grom Puerto Rico? This restaurant is True Authentic Puertorrican food. Dont forget to order Sangria...enjoy!

We wandered by here at random while seeking lunch. We were at the Dolphin Tale exhibit up the street and were longing for something other than snack bar fare offered there.
I had the hangar steak salad which was great and Mrs. Johnson had a custom dish of shrimp, onion, mushroom, and garlic sauce with rice and beans. The kids had pasta with a very nice garlic alfredo. A Dos Equis draft and beautiful Mojito got the adults ready for a few more hours of dolphin. Our server Nylka was awesome, friendly and accommodating.

Found this place while in town for business trip!! The food was great, I had the mofongo with pork chunks. YUM!The service was very good too.

I was born and raised in Puerto Rico where we had a Fondita de Leo nearby, so when i was (very) homesick and searching for some puertorrican food on a yelp search, i was excited to see they had one in Downtown Clearwater. I was a bit skeptical that it would have the same sabor but really wanted to find a festive puertorrican place to celebrate my birthday.
On our first visit we sat in the spacious bar area. To my delight they also had salsa music playing in the background which makes the place lively (we could hardly contain ourselves and started dancing). It was pretty tough to choose what to eat since there were so many good choices. We decided to try the Queso con guava (instead of sorrullitos), Bistec encebollado with rice and beans, and Mofongo. For dessert, i was eyeing the nutella or guava cheesecake but got the recommended fried cheesecake with guava. I do NOT regret any of our choices... everything tasted like back home. Most of the wait staff is bilingual and i had an amazing time reminiscing and sharing stories with them and with fellow puertorrican patrons. Overall, first visit was fun and was just what i needed for my homesick birthday celebration.
On our second visit, we told some puertorrican friends (who were visiting from Boca Raton) to meet up with us here. I recommended the Sangria (reminiscent of Fido Sangria from Puerto Rico) and it did not disappoint. They came with an appetite and had the Chuletas Can Can with Mofongo. They have since returned (even without us).
My third visit, we went with my sister and my brother in law and they really liked their Churrasco and Mofongo. Although the Arroz Mamposteado i ordered tasted good, it had a slight pimiento morrn aftertaste (which can be hit or miss...i liked it but Leroy C didn't). Leroy C decided to try the Chicharrones de Pollo with Mofongo this time, but the portion seemed small and although it tasted good, he decided to stick with his original order from then on.
This last visit was less than favorable because after ordering we had to wait 15 min for my Sangria and almost 1 hour for our food. I just attribute it to the ridiculously high volume of customers that evening ( most were 4+ parties). Another bummer was that they stopped bringing Medalla Light (beer made in Puerto Rico), but hey, they still have the Sangria...so i will be back. Love this place!

  • *****

The best Latin food in the Tampa Bay area, hands down! The stuffed chicken is a must! Ask for the owner, the customer service you will receive will be exceptional!

  • *****

Speechless!!! Amazing puertorican food!!! Its sooo good everything its delicious. The food went above and beyond my expectations the mofongo with skirt steak its amazing! And the fried cheese its really good as well! The red snapper its crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Delightful best puertorican food I had in a very long time!

  • *****

The food was impeccable! Can't wait to return with my family. The only truly authentic Puerto Rican restaurant in Tampa Bay. Please consider opening one in the Wesley Chapel area. We don't have any Puerto Rican restaurants, just Cuban and Mexicsn.

  • *****

Great food at a great price and awesome service. Our server Frankie was great, attentive and fast. I highly recommend this place.

  • *****

The place was empty when we arrived on a Monday night. WHY?? Don't people want good authentic food? We had an excellent meal.

We started with empanadas. For entrees we each had the skirt steak mofongo. The steak had so much flavor. The mofongo was not dry. And a good size/value. To round out all the flavors, they had squeeze bottles of chimichuri sauce, mayo ketchup and some other sauce with jalepenos and (cheese?) in it. We squirted sauces on everything. It was great.

If you like Puerto Rican food, you will not be disappointed. 4 thumbs up.

  • *****

Finally go to try the food at this Gem. Tried the Mofongo relleno de churrasco en salsa de setas. The best I've had in my life....hands down! This place is legit! If you're in the Clearwater area.. Check this place out! Very clean, great service and the food is incredible. Big portions at a very affordable price. I will definitely go back!!

  • *****

Excellent Ceviche! It was fresh and tasty. Very good dish for summer. Comes with a side of green plantains

    The service was great.

  • *****

Muy Bueno! My husband and I both had the skirt steak with chimichurri sauce and rice and beans and ordered a side of sweet plantains. Steak was cooked to order and the plantains was to die for.

The restaurant is so authentic the staff really only speaks Spanish, our waitress had to ask her brother from the back to come and help us with order.

They have same restaurant in Puerto Rico, so we figured it had to be good. Didn't disappoint!

  • *****

We had the shrimp mofungo and skirt steak. Both dishes were literally bursting with so much flavor...my husband just kept saying this is sooooo good. We had a side of rice and beans yummo. We can't wait to go back. The waitress was sweet and very efficient. The place is huge, clean and you must go and enjoy a wonderful meal.

  • *****

First stop getting into town, and it was delicious! Never had mofongo before, but it was very good! My brother got a chicken dish (can't remember the name), but the chicken was SUPER tender and moist. Meal was slow to come out, and we were the only people in the place. But otherwise, great experience!

  • *****

Excellent food and excellent Mojitos. I truly enjoyed their exquisite and highly flavorful mofongo. They truly replicate good Caribbean Latino food.

  • *****

Excellent restaurant to try puertorrican cuisine in a more "fancy" style! The place and staff are very welcoming. Every single server seemed to me bilinguals from Latin origin (Pretty cool in my opinion).
I ordered the Chicken stuffed Mofongo. Normally I eat it in other places with the traditional "ajillo" (garlic sauce). However I decided to break the rule when I saw their other sauce options, and picked the "salsa blanca" instead (white sauce) and trust me, BEST CHOICE EVER!!!!
The wait was fair and the food presentation was impeccably beautiful.
The only little down side was the loud music...so loud it made other customers speak louder. The place is too loud for my taste, period. But the food, service and fair price was way worth the noise hassle.

  • *****

We had the skirt steak which was delicious! The server was really nice and prompt. The ambience is delightful as well. I want to come back to the bar later!

  • *****

Amazing, amazing food!!! Came to visit Tampa for the weekend. My brother brought me to this place and I was in heaven!!!! I can't wait to come back to Florida. I will definitely come back when I'm back in the area. The food is just like back in Puerto Rico. I should know I lived there since I was born. Leo was so nice, he even sat at our table for a bit and talked with my family. I will Absolutely come back!!!! Come eat here you won't be disappointed. I recommend the can can pork shop, mofongo stuffed with shrimp or the shrimp wrapped with bacon the sauce is amazing.

On my way back home va the Florida Gulf Coast found this nice restaurant in down town Clearwater. Nice men but I stayed Basic with rice beans and fried pork! Food was fine service adecuate!

We are from Puerto Rico, so when one of my siblings came over from Utah to visit, we went here to eat some food from home. This restaurant has 2 other locations back in the Island (Puerto Rico). The food is truly authentic Puerto Rican style cuisine.

I ordered the red sangria and I am very critical when it comes to sangria because I know how to make it and mine is awesome, but I have to say the sangria was very good; worthy of the award it received at the Sangria fest in Puerto Rico in March of 2015.

As an appetizer we ordered the ham croquettes... everything was as it souks be expected, crunchy on the outside, nice and soft chopped ham on the inside. Plus since the waiter brought some mayo-ketchup out as part of the additional seasonings provided, the sauce made the croquettes all that much better.

I also ordered the skirt steak mofongo with mushroom sauce. It was good, a little salty for my taste but good. If you are sensitive to garlic (as am i) make sure to let your waiter know to either us no garlic when making your dish or use less, because they do like to use the garlic (which is how mofongo is supposed to be done)

  • *****

This was a fun experience. No one at our table (6 of us) had eaten Puerto Rican food before. The waitress was nice and answered all of our questions. We ordered the sampler appetizer to try out a little of everything, that was good, but we didn't know what we were eating lol. I had Shrimp Mofongo, it tasted similar to a Thanksgiving stuffing that was mashed together, with the addition of shrimp. That doesn't mean it was bad, mind you, it was delicious, but it was extremely filling! All in all we had a good time, we were there on a Tuesday night and the place was pretty empty, hopefully they get enough business on other nights to offset that.

My 3ed visit here, I had to bring my daughter that was visiting from out of town and celebrate my birthday lunch with the delicious snapping food from La Fondita de Leo. We had croquetas for appetizer that were fresh and tasty, the stuffed tostones that were a huge hit, of course the sweet Sangria and the Can Can Pork chop that I had to share with everyone. Well and I was not able to leave without asking for the flan so I did!

Again, the service, the food was great. We always sit outside which is nice and are able to enjoy a fun afternoon.

This Foodie-girls tummy is happy once again.

While in Clearwater, I stopped in La Fondita for lunch. Surprised to learn from the menu that they have a couple locations in Puerto Rico. I knew coming in that I wanted to try the mofongo to see how it compares to the awesome mofongo I had while in Old San Juan. Their menu had so many options that I wanted to try but I decided to stick to the script. I ordered the chicken mofongo. I wasn't quite sure it would fill me up but the waiter assured me it would. And he was right. It was almost 6 inches in diameter. It was tasty although not the best I've had. Lot of chicken stuffed in it which was nice. But because it doesn't come with any sides, the meal was monotonous. It got a little boring eating so much of basically one flavor. I recommend if you want to try mofongo to order another dish, such as the skirt steak, which comes with two sides and add it as one of your sides ($2 extra as it's a premium side). That way you'll have a few different flavors to make your meal more interesting. Oh there's also a few sauces you can choose from. I had mine with alfredo and also added this ketchup/mayo sauce. That added a little more depth to it.

Service was attentive, no problems there and the atmosphere was nice. Boo to not having a lunch menu so the prices are a little high for lunch. Other than that, no complaints.

Couldn't ask for more! Food is authentic Puerto Rican... In the middle of Clearwater! Service is the best !! Love this place will definitely be back!

Yum, yum, YUM! Such great and fresh food, and love the vibe. Also enjoy that there's always soccer on! I can't get enough of the veggie stuffed chicken, the sauce accompanying it is beyond tasty! Nice staff and great festive music too!

Okay, I've been here enough times to award it a 5th start despite the non-authentic ambiance. The food deserves it. It's over a 40 minute drive and I've been here over a dozen times in a couple of months. It's that good.

Nothing to add to my previous review. Food is outstanding. They serve mofongo as a side, which is a bit smaller. For those with smaller appetites, this might be the ticket. The manposteado rice, which is essentially white rice cooked together with red beans, is as salty and delicious as ever. I've gotten to order it with a side of red beans. Yes, it already has beans. I just love the beans.

I have yet to order something I don't like. The country fried chicken steak is awesome. They also serve it Milanese style with cheese and sauce. Haven't tried that. By the time I'm done with a side of manposteado rice, a side of mofongo and a side of beans, I am about to explode. Yay for 5 stars!

Food was very good and authentic. Had the large decadent cut of pork called the Can Can pork chop. Beautifully deep fried with a lot of flavor and touch of mojo. Came with tostones. Also had the homemade cheesecake with guava sauce. Everything was excellent. Next time I'm in Clearwater I'm definitely going back there again!

What a wonderful place! Fondita de Leo is so authentic! We loved the food, the service and the atmosphere! The building is so historic and it reminds me of an old restaurant back in the island! Will be coming back soon! The food was so fresh and the menu has a lot of variety!!!

Innovative, flavorful, and modern cozy upbeat atmosphere. I loved loved loved this place. They have a huge beautiful bar, energetic salsa music playing. Great space..beautiful sayings that capture the art of food, yes it is an art.

We tried the special chicken rolled in bacon and stuffed with cream cheese, sweet plantains, chorizo, and topped with a passion fruit glaze. We have never tried anything like this, or found anything like it for that matter. The yuca fries were terrific, and uncomparable to yuca fries anywhere else. They had a breading on it. I think it would be wonderful with a dipping sauce, but they were just as great plain.

We tried coconut creme brulee. Wow! It tasted like a combination of creme brulee and flan. So good.

The server was hilarious picking on my hubby in spanish. My hubby had a blast dancing salsa with two other friends in our group. They also have outside tables for when you want to bring your dog with you.

So many reasons this place is a 5 for for me. I can't wait to try other options on the menu like their mofongo, coconut curry fish. ceviche, and fried cheesecake.

After the fireworks in Coachman Park, we were going to the Cleveland street for additional party to allow disperse of traffic jam. We pass by the restaurant that Rachel has suggested earlier and we decided to try.

This is a Puerto Rican restaurant has some traditional and fusion of its country cuisine. I was not hungry so I have the coconut creme brle and skirt steak turnover. I saw Fern has the special chicken roulade - chicken breast wrap in bacon, chorizo, sweet plantain and cream cheese look very yummy.

I was surprise that the turnover skirt steak is chop not ground. It makes the turnover fantastic good. The creme brle is not the normal one. It is more to flan base with minor caramelize sugar over it and top with coconut flake. This is one of the unique creme brle I have taste. You can skip all dinner but don't skip the dessert.

We have fun in this restaurant and Fern bust some move of the salsa at the stage. The stage use for performance at special event they host, live music was play here. It was fun as the slogan said "I won't be impressed with technology until I can download food". Dream on. May be one day will happen.

Really tasty food. Be prepared to max out on your daily recommended levels for garlic and salt. Which I tend to ignore regularly. LOL

It can get noisy here when there is a crowd. I think the acoustics of this old building just lend itself to that.

Great place to come by one (hang at the nice long bar), or by all (plenty of room at large tables in the main room).

Very nice and friendly service. Been here a number of times now, and always enjoy it.

I was so excited to visit this restaurant with my father when we were in Clearwater for a concert back in March. I was able to get authentic shrimp mofongo for the first time ever, and I'm so, so glad I did. It was absolutely delicious! The place was a bit loud, which is why it isn't a 5-star rating for me, but the atmosphere was nice. It looked like they had a nice setup for live music too. The bar had a bunch of funny signs up, which definitely made me laugh.

I'd definitely go back without hesitation the next time we're in Clearwater.

This place was slow on a Tuesday night, but the food was amazing. Service attentive. Music a little loud, but fitting for the location and a good Latin mix.

Had the stuffed skirt steak, stuffed with plantain and farmer cheese. Came with side of rice and beans. Excellent food and portion. Seemed expensive until the food came.

    This place is a keeper.

Twelve of us had dinner there today. Ordered pretty much most of the entree items. Really good. As a Puerto Rican, I speak for all Puerto Rican's when I say... just kidding. It was good, beans were a little too salty, otherwise ok. Flavors were strong. Mostly enjoyed the steak platano appetizers and the salmon dinner. The shrimp mofongo was also nice. Dinner took a little long to get to our table, but the size of our party might have something to do with it.

We were looking for a good solid meal prior to a concert. This restaurant was awesome. Food was very well prepared, Juan our server was great and the wine pour was above average. Can not wait to go back!

Excellent empanadas, Red beans had a nice flavor, loved the skirt steak and pretty generous portions all around. Good atmosphere and friendly service. Definitely will be back.

Looking for something new and different. Found just what we were looking for in Puerto Rican cuisine. Started with croquettes. For dinner we ordered the strip steak and special chicken. Steak was flavorful and tender. The special chicken was a generous portion that I could not finish. Tried the sangria that was fruity, tropical. Actually enjoyed the mojito more! Definitely will go back. Carlos, our server, was attentive and suggested amazing choices.

The good: the food is delicious. We ordered tostones with steak, skirt steak mofongo, and the fried chicken. The fried chicken was amazinng, i don't know how they got that much flavor in it but they did. The mofongo was humongous, such a big plate.

The bad: we got in here on a thursday night at 730pm and the place is dead empty and the service was super slow.

  • *****

Wow! Food was fantastic! Carlos are server was passionate about the menu ! Love the place !

Oh my gosh, this is exactly what I needed!! I have been craving Puertorican food for some time, and had give up on Tampa's Puertorican food scene. I had the chicharrones de pollo with arroz mamposteao. Salty, juicy pieces of fried chicken. Mamposteao was a succulent combination of white rice and red beans. Washed it down with delicious sangria. I have to taste the surullitos again, for they weren't fresh out of the fryer, but next time I ask they do them then! I'm still eating now and can't wait to come back!!

Excellent service and delicious food... I highly recommend the tostones rellenos con churrasco y de pollo... delicious!!!

Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon, the place was alive with energy. I sat at the bar as they were in a wait for a table and I was by myself. The restaurant is very specious with plenty of sitting inside as well as outside. Service was a little slow as the place was very busy. I started with and appetizer of fried cheese with a guava sauce which was delicious. For my meal I ordered some chicken stuffed with cream cheese, chorizo, and plantains drizzled with a passion fruit pure. Let me tell you this was one of the most delicious meals I've had in a long time. I have some white rice with red beans as my side which were very good as well. I will absolutely be back.

My husband lived in Puerto Rico for 3 years a long time ago. We live in Idaho now so we are always scouting Puerto Rican restaurants when we travel. This did not disappoint! We went two nights in a row! My mahi mahi was amazing and everyone liked the skirt steak. We're big tostones fans. We ordered those and the stuffed tostones and the plantain spiders. We loved them all. Oh and leave room for the cinnamon cake. I don't even like dessert and loved this! Thanks for bringing us some authentic nostalgia.

    Weepah!

La Chica dragged me to this place tonight after we attempted to eat up the street at a place that was supposed to be open. It was a real arroz con culo. But in a way I'm glad it worked out like this because Puerto Rican restaurants are few and far between. Despite the fact that the Puerto Ricans outnumber Cubans 2-to-1 in the area, most Latin eateries are Cuban. That's all good, but Cuban food gets old after a while, and it's just not as flavorful to my American taste buds as PR-style grub. That's why I used to really love The San Juan Caf on Ulmerton. Really good stuff, huge portions and food made with love. It was a sad day when they closed.

Now I've got a new favorite place for comida Puertorriquea, and it's called La Fondita de Leo. This doesn't really translate into English very well, but to me it means The Foundation of Leo, or Leo's Establishment. Never mind the awkward name of the business though. Great atmosphere, good music, friendly service, delicious sangria, and even better food. That's all people need to know.

There were a ton of options on the menu, and while browsing what stood out were the prices. I initially thought they were high, but after getting my food, I realized the portions warranted them.

I went with fried pork mofongo, but it should be called a mofongazo because it was freaking huge. Normally, mofongo is formed in a piln, so it's usually the size of a rocks glass (or slightly larger than a coffee cup). However, at this place they form it in a big ass bowl or something about 10'' in diameter and about 4" deep. That's grande, amigos. Think about it. And it was stuffed AND topped with delicious fried pork and served on a bed of greens and shredded carrots.

La Chica ordered the chicken (milanesa-style) with mamposteao rice. Que rrrrrrrico!

    Presentation was great.

With the food, they brought out 3 sauces: chimichurri, jalapeo (similar to South American ahi) and of course mayo-ketchup. No Puerto Rican meal is complete without that stuff.

I could have knocked off a star for the staff's sluggishness to close us out, but I honestly think the two people we saw were the only ones working, so I'm gonna let it slide. Plus, like I said, they were really nice.

The food, music and vibes were great, and at the end of the day, that's all that matters. The confusing part to me was how empty the place was. Besides us, there was one guy at the bar and two couples sitting at tables. Was it because it was a Tuesday night? Was it because downtown Clearwater is dead as a door nail at night? I dunno, but I hope they're busy for lunch and their location doesn't turn into another freaking Scientology building!

Yum yum yum. I came in here not knowing what to expect. Atmosphere was great. Food was amazing. Drinks were top shelf. Definitely a find. You need to check it out.

Great food, great seafood at the heart of Clearwater (downtown). The only weakness is the lack in skill of making pork skin CRISPY for the can can pork chop. Ceviche shrimp/fish is a must try.

  • *****

Great local spot. Beans wee very flavorful and they had a lot of variety in the menu. I didn't like the empanadas would of preferred regular ground beef instead of pieces of fatty steak. Really great service and music.

While making my final attempt to try the recently closed down Japanese restaurant a few doors away, we luckily happened upon La Fondita de Leo. Not having much experience with Puerto Rican cuisine, it definitely peaked my interest.

Prices are a little high, but for the amount of food you yet it is worth it. Great relaxed atmosphere, awkward dcor, friendly service, and annoyingly loud music.
The classics to order are the mofongo and the ceviche, so we happily ordered both. Mofongo was great, covered in grilled chunks of skirt steak, then also filled with more steak--- as if the entire dish was birthing another steak. Smashed into the mofongo mixture was crispy pork bits and garlic. My only complaint is that there was not enough garlic. But, that is just my personal reference.

I ordered the ceviche mixed, containing all three of the house specialties; fish, shrimp, and octopus. The portion was also massive and came with a plate overloaded with tostones.

Alcapurrias on the specials board, so we ordered those as an appetizer. They were fingerlike deep fried crispy corn fritters, filled with ground beef and spices. They were soft and chewy on the inside, highly addictive, packed full of flavor, and excellent paired with any of the three house sauces.

House sauces are plopped on the table as soon as you order, 3 of them: hot verde sofrito, not as hot lime verde sofrito, and ketchup-mayo sauce. These sauces complete me.

Maybe I was just really hungry, but La Fondita de Leo sure made my day.

Got there around 930 on a Thursday night. Sitting outside in the beautiful April air, we dined on shrimp mofongo and can can pork chop. The crispy chicharron of the can can pork chop really was incredible! Great service and great food!

I've never before eaten at an establishment that serves exclusively authentic Puerto Rican and Caribbean food, until I ate at La Fondita de Leo on Cleveland Street in downtown Clearwater. I do not have anything to compare it to, but what I can tell you is that the food is very good. I had Chicken Mofongo, which was pieces of chicken breast encased in a mound of a smashed baked potato mixture. I opted to have mine served with the red sauce, which was a very tasty tomato based sauce. The dish presentation was very attractive arriving as a colorful mound surrounded by greens. My husband had a chicken wrap with sweet potato fries, as did one of our friends. The wrap had more than an ample amount of chicken breast, veggies and lettuce. Both said that it was very good. The sweet potato fries were crisp and crunchy -- a nice change from the often served limp fries in other eateries. Another member of our party had the Curry and Coconut Mahi Mahi. He said it was excellent! I look forward to returning to La Fondita de Leo in the future to try more of their authentic dishes.

The BEST...! Puerto Rican restaurant by far.... It is upscale, full-service restaurant by far if you are not in Miami or Puerto Rico. The place is big and clean. The staff are courteous and professional... we had one training alongside another. They paid us just enough attention not to interrupt our meal. When we wanted additional sauces they were fast.

The best part about it was the food, of course. The can not say enough... look at the photos and you and see the flavors coming RIGHT AT YOU. You will not be disappointed with this one. They have been around for years and I just discovered them.... Lost time and I have to catch up... :-)

Service: really good. Our waitress was constantly checking up on us and making sure we didn't need anything else.

Food: ordered stuffed tostones (got shrimp, chicken and churrasco) and they blew my mind. They have this jalapeo sauce that made all the difference. Also had stuffed churrasco which was smackin'! Added chimichurri sauce to the steak and could have probably eaten it until I made myself sick.

Drinks: sangra was delicious, but no fruit. Wife had parcha (passion fruit) and also delicious.

Side note: wife said bathrooms could use some help. I didn't see them, so I can't judge.

Man this place was good, really good. I've been to a bunch of Puerto Rican places in Atlanta, and they were all mediocre. I guess the ones in Florida are better because it's closer to Puerto Rico. Who knows? This place is so much better than the ones in Atlanta.

I tried their shrimp and skirt steak mofongo. Holy cow, these were the best mofongos I've tasted. It was so soft, comforting, and delicious. I had other mofongos where they were chewy, lumpy, hard, salty, or just plain bad. But La Fondita de Leos were perfect and amazing. They were addicting and my mouth waters just writing about them.

I also have to give a shout out to their tostones. They were perfectly fried. They weren't chewy or hard. It was crispy and delicious. They gave us 3 sauces to try with our tostones: a chimichurri, mojo, and this spicy mayo based sauce. You don't need sauces, but the sauces give it an extra boost of flavor.

Their skirt steak entree was delicious. It was tender and seasoned well. The chimichurri sauce just added a flavor bomb to it. It was one of the best skirt steak I've had in a long time.

Their ceviches were fresh and delicious too. It comes with those delicious tostones to eat it with.

I liked their sangrias as well. It wasn't as fancy as some restaurants try to make it. Their sangrias were simple and good.

I liked everything I had at La Fondita de Leo. The service was great. The food was great. Everything was great. It was so good, I actually came here twice during our vacation in Clearwater. Their mofongo will haunt me when I go back to Atlanta.
